Basic Search

Simply enter a word or phrase.

Common words, such as "and", "is", and "the", also known as noise words, are bypassed in a search.

When searching for exact quotes, remove all punctuation from the search string and do not use words with apostrophes, quotes or hyphens.

Advanced Search

You may qualify multiple words or phrases by using AND - AND NOT - OR
For AND, use & (example: Christ & reality of the body)
For OR, use | (example: economy | plan)
For AND NOT, use &! (example: spirit &! our human)
Proximity search using NEAR (~)
Using ~ specifies a match of words or phrases that must be close to one another. For example, lay hold of ~ eternal life. Pages in which the words or phrases appear closer to one another, receive higher rankings.
Prefix search using *
A * specifies a match of words or phrases beginning with the specified text. A search string with regen* would find all pages with words that begin with regen.
Inflectional search using ^
A ^ specifies that the plural and singular, as well as the gender and neutral forms of nouns, verbs, and adjectives should be matched. The various tenses of verbs should be matched as well. For example, ^dispense would find dispense, dispenses, dispensed, dispensing, etc.
Complex searches
Complex searches can be formulated by grouping expressions within parentheses. For example, ^mingle & (^dispense | work Himself | ^impart) & (God-man | God-men) & ^attribute & (^virtue &! bright virtue) & divinity & humanity
Examples
Christ will return all pages in which the word Christ is found.
eternal purpose | eternal plan | eternal economy will return all pages which have any of these three phrases. A higher ranking will be given to chapters that have the two words (ie. eternal and purpose) used in close proximity to one another.
economy & ^dispense will find all chapters in which any form of the word dispense is found and the word economy.

Noise Words

Ranking

Rank is a value from 0 to 1000 indicating how closely a match scored or ranked against the original search string. Rank values are affected by the following factors:

  1. The total number of occurrences of the original search words/phrases in a portion of a book.
  2. Content that includes the search words in close proximity to each other are ranked above those that do not. Therefore, a portion of a book that has the search words in close proximity may have a higher ranking than another portion of a book that has a higher hit count but the words are not in close proximity to one another. Therefore, we also include a search word hit count for reference.
  3. The rank values are relative to each other. Therefore, it is not possible to interpret the RANK value as a percentage or group the rank values into high/medium/low ranges. Think of rank as a method to order the results for a specific search.

Search Scope

Include All Word Forms

This option breaks out the search string into its individual words and generates all conjugations and declensions for each word in the search phrase. A search on the word, dwell, would search for dwell, dwelling, dwelling's, dwells, dwelt, and dwelled.

There is no need to use ^ (inflectional search) or * (prefix search) when using the Include all word forms search scope.

Specified Word Forms

This option searches for exact matches of the specified words or phrases used in the search string. Use of ^ (inflectional search) with a particular word in the search string will broaden the search for that given word in that all conjugations and declensions for that word will be searched. Similarly, use of * (prefix search) with a particular word in the search string will broaden the search for that given word in that all words with that prefix will be searched as well.
