XLVII. THE TEST OF THE CHURCH IN SARDIS
HAVING A NAME THAT IT WAS LIVING,
BUT BEING DEAD—REV. 3:1

This depicts the real situation of the present Protestant churches—seemingly living but actually dead.

XLVIII. THE TEST OF THE CHURCH IN SARDIS
WITH THE REMAINING THINGS
BEING ABOUT TO DIE—REV. 3:2A

This also is a picture of the Protestant churches, with which some of the positive things remain but are about to die. Every item of the positive things inherited and received by the present Protestant churches remains in a dying situation.

XLIX. THE TEST OF THE CHURCH IN SARDIS
HAVING ITS WORKS NOT FOUND BY CHRIST
COMPLETED BEFORE GOD—REV. 3:2B

This also is a portrait of the present Protestant churches, concerning which no work has been found by the Lord completed before God.

The three cases related to the church in Sardis all indicate a shortage of the vigor of the divine life and a lack of the power of the Holy Spirit. To take care of these cases would force us to be enriched in the vigorous divine life and to be empowered in the powerful Holy Spirit. Only the vigor of the divine life and the power of the Holy Spirit can make us living, fresh, and complete.

L. THE TEST OF THE CHURCH IN LAODICEA
BEING NEITHER COLD NOR HOT—
REV. 3:14A, 15-16

The main meaning of the Greek name Laodicea is “the opinion, the judgment, of the people.” When a local church is full of people’s opinions, it surely will become neither cold nor hot. Because of its lukewarmness, such a church will suffer being spewed out of the Lord’s mouth. This is to be given up by the Lord because the taste of that church is repulsive. Thus, a church that is full of people’s opinions, people’s judgments, is terrible. Even we would reject such a church in the practice of the church life, not to mention that the Lord would spew it out. People’s opinions are versus God’s judgment and authority. This is why the Lord is standing at the door of the church in Laodicea (v. 20), indicating that the Lord has been rejected by that church.

Ranking

Rank is a value from 0 to 1000 indicating how closely a match scored or ranked against the original search string. Rank values are affected by the following factors:

  1. The total number of occurrences of the original search words/phrases in a portion of a book.
  2. Content that includes the search words in close proximity to each other are ranked above those that do not. Therefore, a portion of a book that has the search words in close proximity may have a higher ranking than another portion of a book that has a higher hit count but the words are not in close proximity to one another. Therefore, we also include a search word hit count for reference.
  3. The rank values are relative to each other. Therefore, it is not possible to interpret the RANK value as a percentage or group the rank values into high/medium/low ranges. Think of rank as a method to order the results for a specific search.

Search Scope

Include All Word Forms

This option breaks out the search string into its individual words and generates all conjugations and declensions for each word in the search phrase. A search on the word, dwell, would search for dwell, dwelling, dwelling's, dwells, dwelt, and dwelled.

There is no need to use ^ (inflectional search) or * (prefix search) when using the Include all word forms search scope.

Specified Word Forms

This option searches for exact matches of the specified words or phrases used in the search string. Use of ^ (inflectional search) with a particular word in the search string will broaden the search for that given word in that all conjugations and declensions for that word will be searched. Similarly, use of * (prefix search) with a particular word in the search string will broaden the search for that given word in that all words with that prefix will be searched as well.
